Do I have to attend every class?
While the course includes elements that build week to week, each class can stand alone. You do not need to start on the first date, and it’s okay if you miss a session–though we hope you’ll join us for all four classes!

What should I expect on Day 1?
Your first day is all about getting comfortable and getting to know the space.

  • Instructors will introduce themselves, review safety information, and answer questions before getting started.
  • You’ll be encouraged to participate at a level that feels right for you—there is no pressure to put your face in the water or try anything you’re not ready for.
  • We’ll focus on water comfort, including entering and exiting the pool safely.
  • You’re welcome to take breaks, observe, or step out at any time.
  • Many participants are learning to swim as adults and may feel nervous which is completely normal. Our instructors are here to support and encourage you.

By the end of Day 1, the goal is for you to feel more comfortable, more informed, and proud of yourself for showing up.

Where should I meet the class?
Please come to the pool dressed in your swimsuit with clothes over it, or arrive a few minutes early to change in the locker rooms adjacent to the pool. Meet on deck near the shallow end.

What should I bring or wear?

  • Swimsuit:  Wear whatever feels comfortable and supportive for you.  This may be a one-piece, two-piece, rash guard, swim shorts, or other athletic swim-appropriate attire. If you don’t have a swimsuit, leggings with a sports bra or long- or short-sleeved athletic top are welcome.
  • Towel:  Bring a towel for after class or check one out from the front desk at no charge with an ID card.
  • Goggles (optional):  Goggles are encouraged if they help you feel more comfortable. We have some you can borrow to see which type you prefer.
  • Swim cap (optional):  Not required. Swim caps can help keep longer hair out of your face but will not keep hair dry. Braids or ponytails work well too.
  • Footwear:  Flip-flops or pool shoes are recommended for the pool deck.
